Egyptian newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm has published the most extensive public opinion survey on Egyptian politics in 2012. The survey, taken after the initial list of presidential candidates was released, is the first to measure public opinion as to who will be the next president of Egypt. The survey is in Arabic, but Egypt Elects will be translating and publishing in English key take-aways from the survey.
Here is an interesting poll from the survey:
Who would you elect if the election were held tomorrow?
It should be noted that the survey participants, when asked about party affiliations, responded accordingly:
95.7% – Unaffiliated
1.4% – FJP
1% – Nour
0.3% – Wafd
1.6% – Other
Egypt Elects will be posting additional details about the survey, its sampling size and methodology, as well as additional results. At first glance though it appears as if the vast majority of those surveyed are independents.
