Independent Member of Parliament Mostafa Bakry has proposed an amendment to Article 20 of Law 174/2005, on presidential elections. The proposed amendment would extend the campaign period for candidates in Egypt’s upcoming presidential election. Candidates would be able to begin campaigning officially at the conclusion of the registration period in early April, and would be permitted to continue up until two days prior to the election.
MP Bakry cited public opinion as his motivation for proposing the amendment.
